How Long/Frequency:  Lessons are once a week for 30 minutes.  Longer lessons can be arranged (ie. 45 min/hour lessons) if the student so desires.  For advanced students this allows for more time to work on advanced concepts.

The Guitar Specifics

Acoustic and Electric Guitar are both taught.  A student can start with either instrument depending on what their ultimate goal is.

The goal of our instruction is always to help a student learn and get to a point that they want to get to.  In addition we always make sure the important things are covered that will 1.) help a student succeed in the future and 2.)help them understand how to communicate with others musicians.  Students are encouraged to bring in CDs with songs that they would like to work on.

Guitar lessons will consist of the following....
  • Rhythm guitar (i.e. strumming and chords)
  • Different Guitar Techniques/Playing Styles (i.e. finger-style, soloing)
  • Note Reading and Tablature
  • Genres that can be taught....Pop, Rock, Blues, Metal, Country, Christian, Church Worship, etc., etc.
  • and....whatever songs/styles the student wants to learn (as their abilities permit)

Guitar, being a stand alone instrument, is a very fun and challenging instrument to play.  With time and practice you will find yourself playing songs you hear on the radio (or iPod) and/or jamming with your friends and having fun.

A Student's Mother Says....

My 10 yr old son is being taught electric guitar by Joey for a little over 5 months and it amazes me how he is progressing, he is reading music and learning new chords and notes each lesson. My son was so nervous to try something totally and entirely new but Joey has been a wonderful teacher and has been so patient and encouraging during this learning process, he makes it FUN by teaching kids stuff that they enjoy to listen to as well as what they are able to play with their current guitar abilities.

I remember those first couple of lessons while my son was just starting to get some basics down, and Joey said "So do you feel like a rock star yet?" He just cracked me up with his humor, Joey totally gets kids! I highly recommend Joey for children, (I am sure he is excellent w/adults as well) Joey is down to earth, easy going, patient, encouraging, funny, and kind....you will get Quality and Quantity out each lesson! My thought is if your child is playing guitar hero and/or another type of video game instrument, why not try the real thing?
